Hida Buruke - Backgound information
Hida Buruke.
Born on The Wall. Raised on The Wall. Will die on The Wall.
Born from the most renown family of the Crab. Mighty warriors who do not attach importance to the political games of the court. Once you have looked into the shadowlands, you know the rest subsidiary.
Early life:
Buruke was an ugly, fat kid. He was therefore teased by tha other children that grew up on the Great Wall. His large stature gave, however, that most children quickly realized that their laughter was usually a first step towards a good beating
His father was a Taisa (captain) and was greatly respected on the wall. Buruke himself saw his father only occasionally but knew early that this would be his future as well.
His mother always had poor health but this became worse after the birth of Buruke. The whispers of the servants that he would be the reason why his mother's health deteriorated would leave deep scars on the soul of Buruke. It is said that the cause of Buruke's aberrant social behavior had its origin here.
Teenager
As he got older, Buruke soon became a name in the Dojo of the Crab. His tall stature and mental focus meant that he soon was seen as one of the greatest warrior talents of his generation. Fighting with the Tetsubo seemed almost innate.
The desire to outdo his father was an important motive here. His admiration for his father also made sure that Buruke became very dedicated student.
His mother was often absent during this period. She spent long periods in a sanatorium in the countries of the Falcon Clan because of her health.
16 years - a turning point.
After a mission in the Shadowlands, his father was mortally wounded. The body was returned in time by the Kuni. His father dies not in Shadowlands but Crab Lands. His gratitude towards the Kuni remains to today.
The loss of a father figure insures that Buruke's pedals are lost.
Sake and dice are his new passion. Because of his ugly appearance, his dealings with women are at least difficult. His obsession with Geisha evolves here. Willing women for some koku can entice Buruke easily. He sees the disgust in their eyes but at least they keep it to themselves.
Buruke realizes that he is a strong warrior, but that it is often easier if he does not have to fight, just because the others are too afraid of him. He therefore decided to build a reputation on which his enemies think twice before obstrucing his way.
Adult life
Buruke quickly became notorious on the wall and beyond.
His lavish lifestyle, which he can maintain due to the family fortune from his parents, is only surpassed by his brutal way of fighting.
Fearless in battle and strong as a buffalo. A death-defying Bushi during every mission in the shadowlands. He is by his courage and strength a born leader and men follow him blindly into battle, often because they are more afraid of him than of the goblins in the shadowlands.
Outside The Wall however, Buruke's behavior makes for a lot of enemies.
Fights, sake, geisha and gambling, no temptation is strange for Buruke. He often makes debts with the dice but no enforcer feels inclined to go and collect those debts.
His total lack of respect for everything related to etiquette soon gave him the name of a crude brute but few dare to tell him this directly.
Women were all geishas in his eyes, who could be bought. What was ultimately the difference between geishas and the arranged marriages between families?
In recent years Buruke survived several attempts on his life, more by luck and an iron constitution than by skill. Twice someone tried to poison him but each time he came through. An attempt on his life exploded into violence against a few mercenaries, all of which he struck on the head before thinking that they could give him information. Who or what is behind the attacks Buruke doesn't know and he realizes that there is very long list of contenders. Moreover, there are more important things like The Wall.
Now:
Hida Buruke is chosen as Magistrate of the Crab. He suspected that his sister married to a diplomat of the Crab had something to do with this.
A brief description of his companions.
Kakita Yorito:
A warrior of the Crane and my assigned servant. Why he is assigned to me I do not know exactly and it does not matter. Crane stand for everything trivial in life. He is fast but he fights like you would expect of a Crane. He follows rules, fight duels following "the Code" and thinks it an honorable way to fight. He wanders with me but he will see the light or he will die a dishonorable death as an Oni stabs him in the back and drinks piss from his skull. The day he will see that light, I will exempt him from his duties but until then it is useful to have a servant. His wife is a Scorpion so he hasn't much sense about women either.
Kakita Mitsurugi:
A man who dances and thinks this gives meaning to his existence. He does not realize that the politics of the court is only one means to an end and not the goal itself. The Crane really have lost any sense of importance and trivialty.
Kuni Shidjiro:
A Kuni of the Crab and honorable brother. He understands why we do this and despises anything peripheral. I trust him and he is the only one I consider a true friend.
Toritaka Hideaki
High Born, a little too proper but he does not feel too good to do the dirty work. The Falcon are our eyes in the struggle with the Shadowlands. He knows the way of the court but unlike Mitsurugi, knows that this is but a means to an end. I consider it an honor to fight beside him.
Yasuki Kyoshi
Trained at the Phoenix and Inquisitor of the Crab. I respect his position and skills but ask me not understanding. A good ally but not a friend.
